new back tips – Lose weight the right way – Ignacio’s Journey – Week 2

Real healthy weight loss continued… with powerful lessons!

People who move better feel better.. and for the more than 70% of Americans who are overweight, losing weight makes moving easier; improves type 2 diabetes and pre-diabetes; decreases damaging stress pressure on the heart and arteries; reduces the risk of many common cancers; improves sleep; energy and so much more.

Ignacio finished his first week of Phase 2 (i.e. the Losing Phase) of his healthy weight loss program having lost 11.8 pounds, minus 3 inches in his waist, running for the first time in over a year due to the anti-inflammatory diet benefits to his right knee, with good energy levels, not feeling deprived or suffering hunger pangs, and generally very optimistic about making diet and behavioral changes for life.

Week 2 of Phase 2 started a little rough… and he made a journal entry on Day 8 stating, “Family barbecues are not a good idea… Too soon. Felt deprived and alone. Stick to the purpose and the plan… The scale is the biggest measurement of my progress. Up 0.2 pounds… Nothing to fret over.” Ignacio’s body weight after Day 8 was virtually unchanged from the prior day, at 218.2 pounds.

On Day 9 of Phase 2, Ignacio journaled, “I used to think getting slow was just a part of getting old… One of my strongest motivations to lose weight is to be on the court playing Pickleball pain-free and moving quicker… it feels so good to move without the limitation of pain.” Ignacio pushed the envelope with exercise on Day 9 because in his words, “I haven’t been able to run for about one year or so… and my knee is really good right now.” He awakened after Day 9 weighing in at 215.6 pounds… Down over 2-1/2 pounds from the day before.

Ignacio started the program with only a nine day supply of drops and eventually went two days without them. The nutrition supplemental formula stays in the system for a couple days after stopping, so he was temporarily sustained. But he felt the difference in hunger and energy on Day 10, until the 6-week supply arrived. Over exercising in super hot weather the day before didn’t help. He awakened after Day 10 weighing about the same at 215.8 pounds. But he also journaled, “I can physically feel my clothes getting loose, and a noticeable thinning of my face. I don’t feel bloated, and I am not over-exhausted by movement. Best of all, my knee has felt better than at any time since my injury 1-1/2 years ago.”

The nutrition supplemental formula drops “kicked in” after starting them again, and Day 11 was “a breeze”. Good energy at work, enjoying his low glycemic, anti-inflammatory meals, and no hunger pangs. Ignacio journaled, “mental note: do not choose ‘easy’ by doing Day 8 over and over for lunch. Prepare the foods that you are going to eat the night before. Variety is key to long-term goals, and not getting burned out on eating the same foods. Use the menus provided to simplify your choices.” He awakened after Day 11 weighing in at 214.4 pounds. Down over a pound.

Ignacio’s wife, Amy, is getting creative within the boundaries of meal prep… he sent me a photo of his Day 12 lunch and said, “By the way, that’s not brown rice… It’s 4 ounces of cauliflower that my wife cut into small pieces for the 4 ounces of veggies. She is amazing! Finely shredded cauliflower ‘rice’ with shrimp taco and cabbage with salt, lemon, and pepper. There are plenty of options and ways to get creative with the meals that are allowed. Don’t forget to use the free foods as fillers. The belly is happy, heart is happy, the scale is down… So I am happy!” Dinner was “just as delicious”… and Ignacio played softball on the evening of Day 12. He weighed in after Day 12 at 214.2 pounds.  Down a smidge.

Real life can throw us curveballs. Ignacio wrote on Day 13, “Received some bad health results for my Mom this morning. It’s frustrating that I am taking the opportunity to re-create my eating habits with this program while I see her struggling to control her diabetes. With doctors, blood tests, insulin, and other medications, her best A1C results were still terrible at 12.1. Is it lack of knowledge, or lack of willingness? I would pay any amount for her transformation into better eating, but she needs to want it. My “why” just got bigger… I have to be a living example.” After Day 13, Ignacio’s body weight was 213.8 pounds.

On Day 14, Ignacio’s wife “fell into a rhythm of enjoyment” using the available meal plan recipes. Ignacio having a better day with his son taking senior photos, his wife blessing him with delicious and beautiful meals, and work giving him an outlet to serve our patients. He finished his second week of Phase 2 weighing in after Day 14 at 213.8 pounds, again. Down a total of 16.0 pounds in two weeks. Onward to Week 3… we’ll keep you in the loop, so share this with your friends.
