If you suffer from “pinchy” shoulder pain, especially when you cross your arm over your body, try this shoulder rotator cuff realignment stretch to get relief and free up shoulder range of motion
If you suffer pain in the front of your shoulder when bringing your arm across your body, or raising your arm above your head, you can get some immediate relief from pain and increase shoulder range of motion with a simple rotator cuff alignment stretch.
You can perform this stretch of your shoulders, standing, seated, or even lying down on your back.
From the standing position, turn your palms face up in front of your body. Touch or grab your collar bones with the tufts of your fingers.
Bring your elbows forward directly in front of your body so that your forearms are parallel one another… and while keeping your elbows in that forward position, work to point your thumbs to the sky.
Now, keeping your thumbs pointing to the sky, raise your elbows to chest level, so that they are pointing straight in front of you.
Keep those thumbs pointing to the sky while you open up your elbows, straight to the outside of your body, like wings… and ease into a strong squeeze of your shoulder blades together. As you are squeezing, focus on pointing those thumbs to the sky and keeping your elbows at chest level.
Now reverse that motion by bringing your elbows straight in front of your body at chest level, then straight down in front of your body… thumbs pointing upward.
You can repeat this motion as many times as you need to, starting slow and increasing pace, as it becomes more comfortable with fewer cracks and less restriction to motion.
That’s it, you have temporarily improved the alignment of your rotator cuff and biceps long head tendons, increased your shoulder range of motion, and reduced shoulder pain.
