Shoulders are involved in just about every movement we make with our arms. So shoulder pain, weakness, or instability can create real problems for living life uninterrupted.

One of the simplest and most powerful ways to relieve shoulder pain and to increase shoulder strength and stability is by performing the shoulder rolling exercise. 

The shoulder rolling exercise is super simple, adjustable to condition, very effective, and can be done just about anywhere. So let’s get started.

From the standing position, raise your straight arms laterally to the 90° position. If this is painful while you are raising your arms, or once you start rolling them, just bring your arms down enough to take away any unnecessary discomfort.

With palms face down, roll your shoulders forward, creating hand circles with about a 6 inch diameter. Consciously move from the shoulders rather than waving the hands.

What looks like a retirement home exercise can become challenging rather quickly. Do enough to make your shoulders feel heavy… perhaps between 25 and 50 repetitions.

And if you thought the fun was over, think again… Now flip your palms face up and roll your shoulders backward. Focus on shoulder movement. 

The shoulders aren’t just getting heavier, they’re feeling stronger, more stable, and because your body is releasing natural pain relieving factors with the movement, the pain will diminish.

That’s it! How simple… A powerful shoulder rolling exercise to prepare you for activity, or as a nice interruption for inactivity.
